魏朝的时候，有一位出家人，名字叫朗的，他经过险路，被贼兵捉去关在帐幕里，朗的与同伴商议逃跑，但贼兵防守严密且四面皆石壁，又不知浅深，不知道如何逃出。众人惶恐不安，偶见一棵大树依崖畔而生长，有一根像绳子一样很粗的柳藤，时夜大暗，崖底纯荆棘，无下足处，捉绳悬住，暗中相告：“上下不得。观世音菩萨救救我们吧！求菩萨解救我们吧……”一直嘴中念念有词。（你们跪在菩萨面前要一直念念有词，不能不讲话，讲出来菩萨听得到）于是，以头叩石而念（所以过去说磕响头也很灵，当你急的时候，就跪在拜垫上磕响头，菩萨听得到，如果脑子里讲“观世音菩萨……”震动力、共鸣就来了），不久，光照崖下至地，见一大虎在前，众人惧入虎口!
朗的告诉大家说：“我们得脱离灾难了，这只老虎决不食人，是菩萨指示路径，我们可以随着老虎走出去。”爬下去之后，奇怪的是老虎在前，众人在后，人走得稍慢，老虎就停下来等人，一直走到拂晓时分，才踏上平坦大道，然老虎却不知去向。众人疑，这只老虎是不是观音化身，而来施与无畏的？
你们想一想，观世音菩萨为了救人，会不会化作老虎救你们？观世音菩萨为了救你们，连罗刹都做过。什么是大慈大悲，菩萨不怕自己吃苦，不怕自己受辱，只为了救度众生。这就是我们大慈大悲的观世音菩萨。
观世音菩萨慈悲救度众生的故事
晋朝的时候，有一位僧人，名为释开达。
在隆安二年的时候，他在山上采摘甘草的时候，被羌人捉住了。那时正逢饥荒，羌人和胡人互相啖食，其凄惨的程度，让人不寒而栗。而开达法师就是落入这样一些食人的羌人手中。羌人把开达法师和其他十余人关在木栅之中，一天烹煮一人。
开达法师落入羌人手中，一点儿不怕，“我是法师，我相信观世音菩萨会来救我的”，他天天在里面念经，念《普门品》。渐渐地，和他关在一起的人，陆陆续续被烹煮殆尽了，最后剩下他一人。这一天的夜晚，似乎分外漫长，因为到了天亮时分，就轮到他被烹煮了。他心中已经放下一切，只是一直念诵《普门品》。
正当东方刚刚亮的时候，不知道从哪里冒出了一头斑斓猛虎，跳到羌人群中高声咆哮怒吼。羌人被这猛虎吓得纷纷逃跑，根本顾不得烹煮开达法师了。这老虎见羌人散去，也不追赶，而是扑到关押法师的木栅前，张开大口就把极粗的木栅给咬断了。待到咬出一个可以供人出入的缺口，木屑纷飞，开达法师想老虎肯定会把自己吃掉。谁知老虎只是把木栅咬出一个缺口就离开了。
他想：“这难道是观音菩萨显灵来救我吗？”他环顾四周，见羌人早已逃得无影无踪，老虎也跑了。于是，他赶紧从缺口逃了出来逃走了。
菩萨无处不在，观世音菩萨百千亿万的手眼都在每天救我们，哪有求得不灵？</span>
