<span style="font-size: 20px; color: rgb(100, 100, 100);white-space: pre-wrap;">六祖大师就是惠能大师。那时候惠能大师碰到一条毒龙。这毒龙专门喷毒、吐雾。人一旦中了这雾里的毒，就会生病，甚至会不治而死。当时在南华寺禅堂内的那个地方，原来有一个毒龙潭，此龙潭的面积大约有一亩地，谁也不知这龙潭有多深，里面住了一条龙，这龙不是条好龙，而是条毒龙，专门害人，它把南华寺所住的出家人弄得常常生病，不能修行。
有一次六祖大师来到那龙潭，它就现了一个大身，用龙身把一亩地的潭都盖满了。六祖大师一看就笑起来，说：”嘿！你只有现大身的本事，却不能现小身，单能现大身，还不是什么大本领！“这龙听了六祖大师这样说，就把自己的大身隐没了，又现出一个小身，大约有几寸长，在水里游来游去。
六祖大师说：”哦！你的确是有点本领，能大又能小，但是你能不能跳到我这个钵里来，我相信你不敢跳进这钵里。“这时，龙在水里听了之后，“扑通！”一声跳进六祖大师的钵里去了，大师便说：“哦！这回你自动进来，可出不去了!“这龙使出浑身解数，想往外跳，可是怎样也跳不出去，这回上了个大当。
大师向它说：“你不必挣扎了，你今生何以会变成龙身？你前生本来是个修行人，也有善根，曾闻过佛法，不过你的瞋恚心太重了，脾气很大，这叫乘急戒缓，所以你现在才堕落为龙身。你不要以为自己本事很大，能变大变小，变有变无。哈！你现在到我这钵里来，可出不去了吧？”龙听了这番话，也就被降伏，不再往外跳了。于是六祖大师为它说法，它闻法明白之后，即时脱了龙身。
这条龙的尸骨曾在南华寺保留很久，以后因为战争兵火的关系，把龙尸也失去了。这是六祖大师在南华寺降伏毒龙的一段因缘。
龙的因果乃因为它”乘急戒缓“，修行时很用功，学佛法一学便会，这是“乘急”，但是不严守戒律。因它乘急（学得快），所以变化也快；又因戒缓（戒律做不到），所以堕落做畜生。
我们人如果不能忍耐，只能做一个普通的人。任何做领导的人都能忍耐，任何位置越高的人，忍耐度越高。</span>
